# ZapLock > ZapLock encrypts any folder in place on macOS, Windows, iPhone, iPad and Android. The folder keeps its name and its path, and you unlock it with your ZapQR sign-in. You can share a folder with another ZapQR account and take that access back at any time. Free to download on the App Store, the Mac App Store, the Microsoft Store and Google Play. The Free plan locks one folder; Personal adds unlimited folders and sharing. Made by DaSecure Solutions LLC (United States). Key facts: - Encryption happens where the folder already sits โ€” no disk image, no vault folder to move work into, no new drive letter. Aliases, backups and sync clients keep working. - AES-256-GCM, encrypted and decrypted on the device. The key is split in two; the ZapQR account service holds one half, and that half alone decrypts nothing. File contents, file names and a whole key never leave the device. - Works on folders on an internal disk, an external or USB drive, or inside a folder synced by Dropbox, Google Drive or iCloud. - Share a folder to another ZapQR account by email address; revoke it and a folder they have open locks itself (an offline device locks once its offline timeout runs out). Sharing needs the Personal plan. - While a folder is locked, AI tools on the same computer (assistants, coding agents, search indexers) see only ciphertext: encrypted file names and encrypted contents. This holds while it is locked โ€” a folder unlocked in place is ordinary files again for everything on that computer, AI tools included, until it is locked. Browsing it inside the ZapLock app, without unlocking in place, keeps the folder itself encrypted: only a file you open gets a temporary readable copy, and locking removes it. - One documented vault format across platforms: a folder locked on a Mac opens on Windows, iPhone, iPad or Android. - Team plan ($9 per seat a month): folders belong to the team; removing a person deletes their share of every team folder's key, so their next unlock is refused, while everyone else keeps access. - Requires a free ZapQR account. ## Get the app - [App Store (iPhone, iPad)](https://apps.apple.com/app/id6808469062) - [Mac App Store (macOS)](https://apps.apple.com/app/id6808469062?mt=12) - [Google Play (Android)](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ai.zapqr.zaplock) - [Microsoft Store (Windows)](https://apps.microsoft.com/detail/9pf9clkd133k) ## Docs - [Home](https://zaplock.io/): what ZapLock is, how the split key works, FAQ - [Getting started guide](https://zaplock.io/guide): five-minute setup for Mac, iPhone, iPad, Android and Windows โ€” how the split key works, locking a first folder with Add Folder, adding a second device (key hand-over), opening files, nine common mistakes and four use-case recipes - [Folder lock app](https://zaplock.io/folder-lock): what a folder lock app is (hide vs password vault vs in-place encryption), how ZapLock locks a folder without a password, comparison with password lockers and built-in tools, honest limits - [Lock a folder on Mac](https://zaplock.io/folder-lock-mac): macOS built-in options (encrypted disk image in Disk Utility, FileVault, locked notes) and how to lock a Finder folder in place with ZapLock and Touch ID - [Lock a folder in Windows 11 and 10](https://zaplock.io/folder-lock-windows): EFS (Pro only), BitLocker, 7-Zip and why the batch-file locker isn't a lock; how to lock a folder on Home or Pro with ZapLock and Windows Hello - [Lock a folder on iPhone and iPad](https://zaplock.io/folder-lock-iphone): why the Files app can't lock a folder, what Hidden album and Require Face ID do, and how to lock a Files or iCloud Drive folder with ZapLock and Face ID - [Lock a folder on Android](https://zaplock.io/folder-lock-android): Google Photos Locked Folder, Files by Google Safe folder and Samsung Secure Folder compared, and how to lock folders on internal storage, USB or Google Drive with ZapLock - [FAQ](https://zaplock.io/faq): step-by-step answers for Mac, Windows, iPhone, iPad and Android - [Pricing](https://zaplock.io/pricing): Free (one folder), Personal and Team plans; opening a folder is always free - [Boxcryptor alternative](https://zaplock.io/boxcryptor-alternative): how ZapLock replaces Boxcryptor for encrypting folders in Dropbox, Google Drive, iCloud Drive and OneDrive; comparison with Cryptomator and Tresorit; how to move over - [Cryptomator alternative](https://zaplock.io/cryptomator-alternative): how ZapLock differs from Cryptomator and Cryptomator Hub (in-place folders and per-person sign-in vs vault drive and password), a side-by-side comparison, when Cryptomator is the better pick, and how to move a vault over - [Offboarding encrypted folders](https://zaplock.io/offboarding): what one ZapLock Team removal does when someone leaves, what it can't take back, and an offboarding checklist for encrypted files - [WISP encryption clause](https://zaplock.io/wisp): for tax and bookkeeping practices, what the FTC Safeguards Rule (16 CFR 314.4) and the IRS ask about encrypting client files, a copy-and-paste WISP clause for working folders, and what ZapLock does and doesn't cover - [Support](https://zaplock.io/support): setup, devices, sharing, revoking, sync services, account deletion - [Privacy policy](https://zaplock.io/privacy): exactly what is and is not stored - [Terms of service](https://zaplock.io/terms) - [Full text for LLMs](https://zaplock.io/llms-full.txt): the home-page FAQ and every support answer in one file ## Optional - [ZapQR](https://zapqr.ai): the passwordless sign-in ZapLock uses - [DaSecure](https://dasecure.com): the company and the wider platform - Contact: support@dasecure.com ยท security reports: security@dasecure.com
